“Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have
ordained strength (praise), because of Your enemies, that You may silence the
enemy and the avenger.” Psalm 8:2
If God is Elohim, the Creator, and He is; then He is intimately involved in every part of
forming a baby in her mother’s womb.
While that baby is hidden away from the outside world, God, I believe,
is very near and very active as He fearfully and wonderfully makes that little
one.
Babies are priority with God. (It was His method of choice in sending Jesus
to earth.)
Babies tell the story of new birth. They are as perfect as humans get on earth. True, we’re born into sin, but at that first
breath we are blameless. Innocent. Pure as pure gets this side of heaven. There’s something special about a baby. It’s as if a little bit of heaven visits
earth.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Psalm 8:2 lately. Babies do a lot of gurgling and babbling that
we can’t really understand. They have
only one way to communicate…noise. I remember
trying so hard to figure out what my babies needed when they couldn’t tell me;
or, what they were thinking when they’d coo and giggle. I never really imagined they may be praising
their Creator with those noises. But,
Psalm 8 says babies and nursing infants have been ordained (established,
appointed, to take counsel, to lay a foundation) by God for praise
(strength in various applications; force, security, majesty, praise). Maybe while they are being formed in the
womb, God is personally teaching them how to praise! He’s laying the foundation, anointing their
lips to praise knowing the force, security and strength it will be to them
outside the womb!
Praise is priority with God.
This verse even tells us WHY God appoints babies to be
filled with praise. “Because of Your
(God’s) enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.” Praise silences the enemy!! Is that not what it says? Praise SILENCES the enemy. The avenger is the one who punishes or takes
revenge; Satan, and his demons who roam the earth seeking to devour (I Peter
5:8) seeking to take revenge against the Lord and the cross! And, he begins with babies…could that be why
abortion is so rampant in our day. God
breathes life into our babies and fills them with the song of heaven and the
enemy, infuriated, leads many to get rid of the baby before they’re ever born.
Maybe the population continues to grow out of God’s yearning
to again silence the enemy, one more time. Isn’t it true that somehow as we grow older we
lose our song; our heart of praise. The
cares of this life silence our voices and we fail to remember that our strength
is found in praise. So, more and more
babies are conceived as God fills the earth with praise, life and purity.
One last thought…
Isn’t it interesting that the very part of our body that can
violate God’s heart for purity (or be violated) is used to deliver the purest
of miracles? True love (God’s love)
ALWAYS wins! What can wash away my
sin? Nothing but the blood of
Jesus. We gaze upon Your beauty, Lord
(Ps 27:4)
