Noble Character

The Proverbs 31 woman is sometimes an avoided topic, maybe because we read about her and feel so far from where we should be; or maybe because we think she is unattainable.  I've been looking at her again recently, and the Hebrew definition of virtuous, or noble character, is very interesting.  Noble character is defined as a force, an army, wealth, virtue, valor, strength, able, might, power, riches, valiant, war, worthy.  Virtuous usually occurs in scripture as the word army, man of valor, host, forces, brave, capable, warrior.  Most of those words are far from my previous understanding of what a woman of noble character looks like.  But, I love it!!  I love the thought that in Christ, we are a force to be reckoned with!  We are to be brave, warrior-like, capable in Jesus for whatever comes.  That's who the Proverbs 31 woman is!  Verse 30 says, "...a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised."  So, it's clear that the Source of her strength, and bravery, and capability is the Lord!

Not too long ago I read a book called "Lioness Arising."  I was so inspired by the comparison of women to the lioness.  The author described the lioness; how she lives and cares for her young, how she takes care of herself, how she moves and hunts and roars.  After studying the Proverbs 31 woman, I am more convinced than ever that Lisa Bevere is on to something!

"Get out of bed, Jerusalem!  Wake up.  Put your face in the sunlight.  God's bright glory has risen for you."  Isaiah 60:1 MSG
