Jesus called a little child to Him and said, "unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest (Matthew 18:2-4)."
It's almost unbelievable that there are strong-willed children when you think of what an oxymoron that really is. But, it literally proves how far from what God created us to be we really are...even as children. It also proves how we as adults can change if we pattern our response to God like children respond to biblical discipline. (Another interesting verse, by the way, I read this morning in Proverbs 19, verse 18 "Discipline your children while there is hope. Otherwise you will ruin their lives." WOW!!) Strong willed as some of them may be Jesus still used little children to illustrate His desire for all of us. If we want to enjoy all He died to give us both now and forevermore, humility is ESSENTIAL.
God has had me on a field trip the past several weeks showing me this truth and how quickly and easily I can turn away from His desire for me. I'm so glad that "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously (James 4:5b)." I'm so glad that even though He convicts, He disciplines in love that is irresistible. And, I'm so glad He "gives grace to the humble" (vs. 6) when we see what He reveals and turn from our wicked ways.
Six months ago TODAY, this little girl walked into our lives...
"Jesus called a little child (Matthew 18:2) and put the child among them" - literally for us on January 19, 2014. And, I believe He is calling us to turn from our sin (repent) every day and humble ourselves if we ever want to become what He is calling us to be.
Thank you, Jesus, for loving me enough to tell me the Truth.
"Humble yourselves [feeling very insignificant] in the presence of the LORD, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up and make your lives significant]." James 4:10 Amplified
