Several weeks ago, Steven and I were “in discussions” about Grace, and the wait time, and our future, and what God is doing in our lives and family right now and we began to really question our decision to adopt…our motives…our age…and God’s will for our lives. February 25, 2010 marked the 3 year anniversary of our dossier arriving in China. This July we’ll celebrate 4 years since our first thought of adopting. Much has happened over the past 3 to 4 years. A conference call with our family coordinator at America World Adoption Agency recently confirmed with all probability another year of waiting.
As I took my thoughts and questions to the Lord, wondering again how this is all going to work out I asked the Lord for a word. I absolutely love John 14:25&26 that says, “All this I have spoken while still with you (Jesus is speaking). But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will REMIND you of everything I have said to you.” That’s not the word the Lord gave me in that moment, but what happened next is the product or fruit of that scripture. I “remembered” that I journaled the details of the first year of going through the adoption process and I pulled that notebook back out. As I began to read and feel the emotion of all that God was doing in my heart at that time, I was reminded of dozens of verses the Lord used to confirm His working in and through that decision, and the multiple miracles He performed to open the way and validate His will in our hearts. I shared my journal with Steven and asked him to read it too and we sat down as a family and shared our concerns. We made this decision together and even though Tyler is not here now we know his heart, and we all shared what we think God is saying. Bottom line…we made a pact again to follow the Lord and not turn back. Ben added: “and we’re not going to bring this up again!!” Hallelujah! His Word spoken almost four years ago was renewed in our hearts and we are committed to follow Him in obedience. He is leading us and He will show us the way!
The very fact that God’s Word was written down by men of God as the Spirit of God enabled them speaks to the power of written words. I recently heard Karen Kingsbury speak, a fictional writer who takes scripture and writes it in story form. She spoke at a conference and talked about the story that we’re all writing with our lives. Are you writing yours down? God is doing miraculous things right before your very eyes! Do you see Him? Are you looking for Him? Are you inviting Him inside your world or have you shut the door to your heart for fear of condemnation or shame or conviction? Open your heart, friend. Invite Him in. He is the Answer you’re looking for. Write It Down!!!
